TotalCon was a great success this year!

Friday

when robots attackWe had seven players in Friday nights every monster for it's self showdown. We had many "firsts" and broken records during that session, and it was the most fun with G.M.S I have had to date. Rodan was unstoppable! Scott's friend Barry used the giant chicken to great effect, and was the first player ever to accomplish the 1 civilian, 1 Structure, all 4 military types, and one kill shot objective. Not surprisingly, he was crowned King of The Monsters with 200pts! A new record!

However, by the end of the 10th turn, (another first), three more players also completed the objective! The reaction to the Kraken was all I hoped it would be. By the end there was next to nothing left standing in the industrial section and most of the rest of the city was in ruins.

After a discussion about wanting to incorporate the Argo from Starblazers (a request from many players), but not having the funds to procure one in the correct scale ($300 - $700), one of the players actually offered to build me a model of it and fill it with resin so it'll stand up to travel! How cool is that!

Saturday

Saturday's game picked up where the last one left off with 4 of the seven players returning. The city, still under siege, called the G-Force to the defense of what was left. We had 18 players! Another new record. Shogun Warriors vs Monsters. The Monster side saw the debut of some of the Gamera monsters, and for the first time Godzilla and Gamera shared the same table!

This game was chaos incarnate. Instant monster on Robot violence! Mothra, in an amazing move, threw Great Mazinger into Gaiking, knocking them both down and setting them up for King Kong and King Ghedorah to mop the floor with them. Jet Jaguar came to the fallen Shoguns' aid, and fought skillfully, but the Monsters were on a rampage. Feats were being popped on the first and second turns and there were 4 K.O.'s by the third turn! The Rodan Egg was discovered and immediately nested by Barry/Rodan before anyone could even blink! By the end of the 6th turn the game was over, and at least half of the players were KO'd.

Although the Robots fought hard, the Monsters were victorious. And once again, Rodan was the King of the Monsters with 93pts.

No less than three conventions offered to pay for hotels and provide helpers for us so we'd do their shows! The Havoc guys all but begged us to do Havoc this year. Also, I had to be asked 100 times if I had a web site, so Sean, we need to get cracking! It's all very exciting.

Analysis

fever dreamsWe discovered some more things that need work. Rodans Fly by Attack's POW will need to be reduced from 20 to 16. The POW 20 proved to be too much, especially in real "Gamer" hands like Barry's. The “throw” critical need to be re-written. And, for massive games like the last one, we'll need to tweak the initiative system and GM coverage from player to zone which will hopefully speed things up a little.

Undying thanks to Justin, Scott, and Mike for their hard work and effort this weekend. It couldn't be done without you! And to Paul for hooking me up with his laptop when mine died. It worked awesome, thanks dude! I also want to sent a special thanks to Greg and Dave for driving their families all the way to Mansfield just to check out the game. You guys rule!
