Havoc 07

Havoc was very interesting this year. As you know, we had just the one session on Saturday morning. We had 12 players, which was a good turn out considering there was no foot traffic where they put us. (Downstairs in the corner) We ran the same scenario as last time, Kilaaks vs Planet X, and it was another very close battle. Throughout the session, it seemed to me that the Kilaaks had better teamwork. A concentrated attack by Mothra and Mechagodzilla against Godzilla (Noah, Planet X) was extremely effective. And unfortunately even Godzilla’s Lighting Heal feat wasn’t enough to save him. The Xaians got their revenge however, and under the direction of Giant Robot (Sean) Space Gayos, and King Ghedorah took Mothra and Mechagodzilla out.

youthOn the other side of the table, Zigra (Planet X) rolled three 18s in a row! And laid waste to Grandizer (Kilaak). Also, for the very first time, no one destroyed the bridge. The crowd we had was awesome. Everyone picked up the game wicked fast, and the turns just flew buy, 10 rounds in 3 hrs! Only about half the city got destroyed, but there was tons of monster on monster combat! The whole session went really well, until the end… and it was all my fault.

On the 8th round I brought out the BIG reveal! The mighty Argo from Starblazers! It looked awesome, and right amid the ooo’s and ahhh’s, I stinkin dropped it! Somehow it didn’t break, but the base was ruined so it was grounded. Also, I put the running of the Argo in the hands of a Player who had died earlier (Mechagodzilla) and because all the monsters were weakened so much by then, he killed off 4 monsters. Not cool and very anticlimactic. I was bummed about that.

Anyway, when we were done counting the points, the Xians won by 16pts, and Angirus (Kilaak), who used his special move, Tunnel, to great effect, earning 129pts, and was the K.O.M.

Points of Change

Mothra and Godzilla need minor tweaks, The Argo needs to be re-thunk, and Scott, in a moment of sheer genius, suggested the idea of pre-planting survivors under the buildings….Brilliant! By doing this during setup, it will save huge in time and hassle during game play.

Points of Progress

Scott was able to schmooze up to one of the owners of Mongoose games, who just so happens to love G.M.S. Just in case you don’t recognize Mongoose by name, you may remember them from such games as; Babylon 5, Starship Troopers, and their newest, Battlefield Evolution. He made a particularly cool observation about the demographic G.M.S. attracts: women, children, teens, and adults. In his experience very few games, especially at cons, can do that. Sweet!!!!

Also, the owner of Pandemonium Books wants us to do weekly sessions at his store for money. We haven’t agreed to do it, and there are a lot of details to be discussed, but he’s motivated to make it profitable for him and us. We’ll see, but, I’m thinking, if we can do it for awhile, it could pay our way to Gen con next year.
